Soap on a rope!

Hi folks.

I haven’t quite finished with the last physics problem and I’m already thinking about the next!

Just as an example, I’m thinking again of a kind of physics simulation environment with gravity and all those lovely things - and of two objects, you have control over the first, but the 2nd is ‘tied’ by a bit of non elastic string/pole/bar/whatever, how do I apply the physics of movement to the 2nd?

Any movement is going to be passed through the rope to the 2nd object, but forces are going to be passed backup up the the rope too. I feel this must be a classic physics problem and very well covered, but I don’t know the terms to search for.

I really must find the time in between being ill to start studying properly!

Could some kind soul point me in the direction of some reading material or example of how to achieve this.

Many thanks.
