2D tile map rendering - Best practices

Hi everybody,

what is your approach when you are rendering a tile map and why did you chose to do so?

Maybe we could collect a few things here to get an overview of what to consider (for examle is the map to be rendered large or not. Do I need special effects…).

Do you prefer your own custom solution or an engine?

Thanks, I guess thats an interesting thread there with a lot of useful information on that topic.

I thought this thread here could be an up to date overview of what the community is using and why. I think this would be interesting to know since this is a common topic in 2D.
